Lighthouses have always held a special place in my heart, more than just coastal sentinels. Their locations, often perched precariously on dramatic, wave-battered coastlines, speak to a profound sense of solitude and strength.
I love the stark beauty of their black-and-white stripes and patterns, a timeless contrast against the vast, shifting colors of the sea and sky. The aesthetic isn’t just for looks; it’s a classic, bold signal.
And the architecture — each one unique yet fundamentally functional — is a tribute to human ingenuity. They’re not just buildings; they’re stories of hope and resilience, standing watch against the unending tides.
I’ve photographed many lighthouses on both the West and East coasts of the USA, with the latest ones being from the West Coast.
